Tamar, Kochav Yaakov

Hi! My name is Tamar. I am married, 41 years old, and the mother of 5 children ranging in age from 4-12 years old (boys and girls). Both my husband and I are from the U.S., I, from Calif., he, from NY. My husband is a rabbi and I presently work in radio and news broadcasting.
After living with three children in Jerusalem’s city center (Rechavia neighborhood), we decided we wanted a bigger place with more of a community, and a safe place where our children could go out and play without heavy traffic and strangers walking around.
We moved to Kochav Yaakov after checking around many other places. We were scared about moving, but our fears were replaced by the complete feeling of ‘quality of life’, the ‘community’ feeling, and knowing that we were really helping to build Eretz Yisrael, We were making a difference, and we were with really FINE people!
Kochav Yaakov
Kochav Yaakov, is a heterogeneously religious community consisting of a Knitted Kippah and Charedi Dati Leumi population. We have been living in Kochav Yaakov for about 8 years now and are really happy here. Our children get to experience growing up with all kinds of religious Jews, not just one type. We live in a beautiful spacious home, one we could never afford in the city, and have the real ‘American Dream’ here in Israel!
Kochav Yaakov is located just 12 minutes north of Jerusalem. About 300 families presently live here, with another approx. 300 families in adjacent Tel Tzion - an exclusively charedi neighborhood advertised as ‘North Jerusalem’. We are adding a few new neighborhoods to Kochav Yaakov, including ‘Kiryat Ohr Moshe’, a community under the auspices of the Rav Mordechai Tendler SHLIT”A .
Kochav Yaakov is slated for building another 5,000 homes and is the up and coming Jerusalem Satellite Community!
Absorption Center on Kochav Yaakov for new Olim! Everything is provided for new-comers including beds, small fridge, stove, sheets and blankets, even dishes!. The absorption center is housed in new caravans (up to 3 bedrooms) and is ideal for lodging while settling in to the country and getting a feel for our community. It is also only a 12 minute drive from Jerusalem, and a 25 minute bus ride from the Jerusalem Central Bus station.
Housing
Approximately 30 new homes at present are available for sale including villas, 2-family homes, and 4-family homes. All have private entrances and gardens and/or porches. Some older houses also occasionally come up for sale. Rentals come up between Pesach and Succot.
Religious services
Since we are heterogeneous, we have many minyanim and shuls. Sepharadi, Ashkenaz, Temani (Yeminite) and early morning ‘Neytz’ minyan.
Kochav Yaakov has a separate Men’s and Woman’s Mikvah.
Education
Our child care and education span from 3 months old to Jr. High and even Hesder Yeshiva. We have Torah Shiurim for men, women and children in Hebrew, English and even French! We also have a few kolells on Kochav Yaakov.
Businesses on Kochav Yaakov
