Vehaaleynu B'Simcha leArtzenu veTitaenu Bigvooleynu... (Shabbat Musaph) - And You will bring us up in joy to Our Land, and You will plant us within Our Borders....
Introduction This is how Aliya B'Simcha started. Shabbat thoughts of words in a Prayer that the Jewish People have chanted regularly during the Amida of Musaph on Shabbat. I realised that, on reflection, this was the ideal way to bring Potential Olim from the 4 Corners of the World on Direct Aliya to the place they are most needed ---- Communities in Yesha --- be they Religious, Secular, Charedi or wanting a "Mixed Community" --- the variety of Type and Size to our Communities is unlimited!
Of course, being an "Oldtimer" --- fifth family to settle Maale Levona in 1984 --- and being on the Mazkirut (Village Council) at the time (end of 1998) helped me think how to fill 20 well-built Jerusalem Stone Houses in Maale Levona, which, at the time, stayed empty for another 2 years; and, at the time of writing this, have inly been inhabited for rental purposes. So, for an example, 20 brand-new houses are for sale in Maale Levona for as little as $101,000, each on half an acre of ground!
A similar picture exists in many Communities all over Yesha. As I live in the Binyamin Area, it is easier for me to relate, although other parts of Yesha - the Shomron, Gush Etzion & South Hebron Area, Gush Katif, and the Golan are no less in need of Olim on Direct Aliya.
The Situation since Rosh Hashana 5761
As we all know, the "New Intifada" has not helped to publicize Yesha as "the safest place to live in Israel." However, we are renowned for being more aware of the "Matzav" (Situation), than in some of the Cities. We cannot "pull the wool" over New Olim's eyes, however all our Public Transport is by Bullet-proof Busses (and Egged even brought down prices by 50%!). Within Shilo or Cochav Yaakov, it is probably "safer" to let your children go to play on a swing, than in a Public Park in any of the Major Cities!
Who do we aim to bring to our Communities?
We are aiming for 2 Major Groups of Olim:
a) Those living in Chul (Diaspora), who have not yet decided exactly where to come on Aliya, but have already made the basic decision to come on Aliya, and just need the "final problem solution", e.g. Where to live? Where to work? Where your children will study? These 3 Issues are normally the "last straw" before signing on the dotted line with the Sochnut Shaliach for Aliya.
b) Those who already came to "Big Israel" on Aliya, but still have not found the ideal place to live for themselves and their family. They are looking for a place where they will have close neighbours, where their children can go to school safely (either within their Community or by Bullet-proof Bus), within close distance from a Major City without living in the City!
Come Home to Israel, especially Yesha, NOW!!!
